Theory is that you have to show that you are actively looking for a job,

And you can’t turn down a job if offered (even at lower pay), or you risk being ineligible for further UE benefits. And then there are obviously the benefits, mainly HC, which for some, could be worth a ton. And lastly, am I going to turn down $500/week plus benefits in order to stay at home for $100 more/week with no benefits, and I know that $600/ week is running out sometime pretty soon? I think I would not do that even if the $500/week had no benefits, because I’d want the security of a steady income (with chances to advance).

I’m in the camp that says UE should replace some set %, well above 50%, of last wage amount. Not so sure that high UE benefits drives continued unemployment for the reasons above, but I do think it is time to be somewhat frugal. The US govt is running up quite a bill, and I am not at all sure this will be the last chapter of it.
